How does the free trial work?

New subscribers can use the whole app free for 2 weeks: all 10 tables, division, the stories, the checks and the diplomas. The trial is the start of the monthly family subscription.

  • Starting it: in the grown-ups area, when you first set up Spots or any time later. Apple asks you to confirm and shows the price that applies after the 2 weeks.
  • Keeping it free: cancel at least 24 hours before the 2 weeks end, in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions or with Manage subscription in the grown-ups area. Then nothing is charged.
  • If you don’t cancel: the monthly subscription begins when the 2 weeks end and renews every month until you cancel. You can also choose the yearly subscription or the one-time lifetime purchase instead.
  • After that: Spots needs a subscription or the lifetime purchase. Without one, the tables stay locked. The badges and diplomas your child has earned stay visible, and your child is never shown anything about buying.

The free trial is for new subscribers: one per Apple Account. More about the plans.

How do I cancel a subscription?

On the iPhone or iPad that started it:

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Spots, then Cancel Subscription.

Or, in Spots: open the grown-ups area and tap Manage subscription. It opens the same Apple screen.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the free trial or the current period ends, or the next payment may already be taken. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. If there’s no cancel button, the subscription is already cancelled. Only the person who started a subscription can cancel it.

Apple’s own guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose “Request a refund” and pick the purchase. Apple decides and usually replies within a couple of days. If you live in the EU or Norway, Apple’s terms also explain your right of withdrawal; see our Terms of Use.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open the grown-ups area and tap Restore purchases. Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple Account that bought the plan. Plans usually come back on their own; the button is there if they don’t.

How does Family Sharing work?

Every plan works with Family Sharing, for you and up to five family members. Once Family Sharing is set up, each family member opens Spots on their own device and the plan is usually there already. If not, they can tap Restore purchases in the grown-ups area.

Still not there? Check the settings of the person who paid:

  • Monthly or yearly plan: Settings > [name] > Subscriptions > Manage Family Access, then turn on Share Eligible Subscriptions.
  • Lifetime purchase: Purchase Sharing must be on in Family Sharing.

Each device keeps its own children and progress. Apple’s guide: Add a family member to your shared subscriptions.

My child asked to buy. What happens now?

If your child’s Apple Account uses Ask to Buy, a purchase in Spots (including starting the free trial) goes to the family organiser as a request. Approve or decline it on your own device. A request lapses after 24 hours; after that it can be sent again.

While it waits, the grown-ups area says it’s waiting for approval. Your child sees nothing about buying. Once you approve, the tables open by themselves. Apple’s guide: Ask to Buy.

Moving to a new iPhone or iPad

Spots has no accounts and no server, so progress does not sync between devices, and we can’t move it for you. Here’s what happens:

  • New device set up from a backup or transfer of the old one (iCloud Backup, a computer backup or Quick Start): the app’s progress usually comes along with everything else.
  • New device set up fresh: Spots starts fresh too. Your plan isn’t lost: tap Restore purchases in the grown-ups area. Then let your child do the 3-minute starting-point check. It finds what they already know, so they don’t start from the beginning.
  • Two devices at once (say, a phone and a tablet): each keeps its own progress. They don’t combine.

The grown-ups gate

Plans, purchases, settings, sharing and links to this website are in the grown-ups area. To open it, tap grown-ups on the map. Spots shows a number written in words; type it in digits.

It’s easy for an adult and hard for a young child, and it never asks a times-tables question, since your child is getting good at those. It is not a password, though. If you want every purchase to need your approval, use Ask to Buy or Screen Time.

Changing the school system or language

The first time it opens, Spots guesses both from your device’s language and region. To change them, open the grown-ups area: School system is under School, and Language is under Settings.

The school system decides how sums are written (3 × 4, or 3 · 4 in Sweden and Norway; 12 : 4, 12/4 or 12 ÷ 4 for dividing), and which diplomas and school-pace checks your child sees. The app speaks English, Dutch (with Flemish school words for Flanders), Swedish and Norwegian (Bokmål).

Does Spots send notifications?

No, never. If you’d like a reminder, pick a practice time in the grown-ups area and tap Add to my calendar. The reminder then lives in your own calendar, where you can change or delete it.

Deleting your data

  • One child: in the grown-ups area, open Settings and remove the child. Their name and progress are deleted from that device.
  • Everything: delete the app from the device.

We hold no copy of your data, so there’s nothing to ask us to delete. Old copies can remain in device backups until those are replaced. Purchases are kept by your Apple Account and can be restored later. More in our Privacy Policy.
