Times tables, practised calmly
The 5 times table
Ten questions, no clock. A wrong answer shows the spots.
The practice needs JavaScript. The whole table and its trick are below.
The whole 5 times table
- 1 × 5 = 5
- 2 × 5 = 10
- 3 × 5 = 15
- 4 × 5 = 20
- 5 × 5 = 25
- 6 × 5 = 30
- 7 × 5 = 35
- 8 × 5 = 40
- 9 × 5 = 45
- 10 × 5 = 50
The trick: half of ×10
Every answer in the 5 times table ends in 5 or 0, and each one is half of the 10 times table. Counting in fives round a clock face is good practice too.
- 6 × 5? First 6 × 10 = 60.
- Half of it: 30!
A 5 times table worksheet
Twenty sums from the 5 times table on one page, with a line to count in 5s. It prints on A4 or Letter paper.
Questions parents ask
What is the trick for the 5 times table?
Half of ×10. For example: 6 × 5? First 6 × 10 = 60. Half of it: 30!
When do children learn the 5 times table?
In Year 3, together with the 3, 4 and 10 times tables. Many children can count in fives well before that.
Why does the 5 times table end in 0 or 5?
Because two fives make ten. An even number of fives makes whole tens (ending in 0), and an odd number leaves one five over (ending in 5).
