Times tables, practised calmly

The 6 times table

Ten questions, no clock. A wrong answer shows the spots.

The practice needs JavaScript. The whole table and its trick are below.

The whole 6 times table

  1. 1 × 6 = 6
  2. 2 × 6 = 12
  3. 3 × 6 = 18
  4. 4 × 6 = 24
  5. 5 × 6 = 30
  6. 6 × 6 = 36
  7. 7 × 6 = 42
  8. 8 × 6 = 48
  9. 9 × 6 = 54
  10. 10 × 6 = 60

The trick: double the ×3

The 6 times table is the 3 times table doubled: 7 × 3 = 21, so 7 × 6 = 42. Every answer is even.

  1. 7 × 6? First 7 × 3 = 21.
  2. Double it: 42.

The ones to watch

These are the 6 times table facts children miss most often: 7 × 6, 8 × 6, 9 × 6. Give them a little extra practice.

A 6 times table worksheet

Twenty sums from the 6 times table on one page, with a line to count in 6s. It prints on A4 or Letter paper.

Questions parents ask

What is the trick for the 6 times table?

Double the ×3. For example: 7 × 6? First 7 × 3 = 21. Double it: 42.

When do children learn the 6 times table?

In Year 4, when the Australian Curriculum asks for all facts up to 10 × 10.

Is there a pattern in the 6 times table?

Yes: 6 times an even number ends in that same number. 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36 and 6 × 8 = 48.
