Times tables, practised calmly

The 7 times table

Ten questions, no clock. A wrong answer shows the spots.

The practice needs JavaScript. The whole table and its trick are below.

The whole 7 times table

  1. 1 × 7 = 7
  2. 2 × 7 = 14
  3. 3 × 7 = 21
  4. 4 × 7 = 28
  5. 5 × 7 = 35
  6. 6 × 7 = 42
  7. 7 × 7 = 49
  8. 8 × 7 = 56
  9. 9 × 7 = 63
  10. 10 × 7 = 70

The trick: turn it around

The 7 times table looks hard, but most of it is already known from other tables, because 3 × 7 is the same as 7 × 3. Learned last, only 7 × 7 = 49 is new.

  1. 3 × 7 is the same as 7 × 3.
  2. So most of ×7 is in other tables.
  3. Only 7 × 7 = 49 is new!

The ones to watch

These are the 7 times table facts children miss most often: 4 × 7, 6 × 7, 8 × 7, 9 × 7. Give them a little extra practice.

A 7 times table worksheet

Twenty sums from the 7 times table on one page, with a line to count in 7s. It prints on A4 or Letter paper.

Questions parents ask

What is the trick for the 7 times table?

Turn it around. For example: 3 × 7 is the same as 7 × 3. So most of ×7 is in other tables. Only 7 × 7 = 49 is new!

When do children learn the 7 times table?

In Year 4, when the Australian Curriculum asks for all facts up to 10 × 10. It is often the last table children learn.

Why is the 7 times table so hard?

Its answers have no easy pattern, and it is usually practised on its own. Turnarounds take away most of the work: 7 × 4 is 4 × 7, which your child knows from the 4 times table.
